Recently, Ghulam Ali, a leader of the Gujjar Muslim community of Jammu and Kashmir, took oath as a Rajya Sabha member. He was administered the oath as a member of the Upper House by Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh tweeted that he was the first Gujjar Muslim community member to reach the Rajya Sabha from Jammu and Kashmir. He wrote in his tweet- “Ghulam Ali Khatana took an oath to become the first Gujjar Muslim to enter the Rajya Sabha from Jammu and Kashmir. Triumph of democracy under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi!”
