A picture is becoming fiercely viral on social media sites. On the basis of this image, users are claiming that the central bank of Algeria has issued a new coin of 500 dinars with a picture of ‘Al-Aqsa’ and ‘Jerusalem is ours’ written on it.
A user PALESTINE ONLINE tweeted the picture with the caption, “In a new honorable position, the Central Bank of Algeria issued the first 500 Algerian dinars coin, bearing the picture of Al-Aqsa Mosque on its back with the phrase “Jerusalem is ours”.
Zeku Y Kdija Lej wrote a caption on its Facebook in the Ethiopian language ‘Amharic’, which roughly translates as, “The Algerian government has written a 500 dinar coin with a picture of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, ‘Jerusalem is ours’. Al- Aqsa belongs to us Muslims.”
Similarly, other users are also sharing the viral picture of coin of 500 Algerian dinar with a similar caption.
Fact Check:
We first visited Algeria’s website for the fact-check on this viral picture of the Algerian 500 dinar coin. According to the website of the Bank of Algeria, it has not issued the 500 dinar coin.
It is noteworthy that there are no 500 dinar coins in Algeria. There are coins of 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, ,2 and 1 while the notes are of 1,000, 500, 200, 10,0 and 50 dinars.
Conclusion:
DFRAC’s fact check clears that the central bank of Algeria has not issued the 500 dinar coin in which written ‘Jerusalem is ours’ with the picture of Al-Aqsa Mosque. Algeria does not have 500 dinarcoinsn. Hence, users are sharing this with fake claims.
