Fact Check: Did the Atlantic publish a racist headline on judge clearance Thomas?

DFRAC Editor June 29, 2022 2 min read

An image circulating online shows a racist headline published by The Atlantic about Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas following the Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade.

The Atlantic logo can be seen on the top of the image, while the headline reads: “It’s Not Racist To Call Judge Clarence Thomas The N-Word.”

Many users on social media shared the image under various captions.

A Facebook user writes, “From an so called American Newspaper.”

A Twitter user writes, “The “tolerant” Left is only tolerant of those who agree with them. Step out of line and the true nature of the Left presents itself.”

Fact Check:

We at DFRAC simply searched this on the official website of the Atlantic Newspaper and found nothing on that site. Also, no such image was posted on the official Twitter account of the Atlantic.

Conclusion:

The Atlantic did not publish a racist headline The image is digitally altered, and no such headline was published by the outlet.

Claim Review: The Atlantic published a racist headline on judge clearance Thomas.

Claimed by: social media users.

Fact Check: Fake
