After emergence of some videos, the buzz in social and mainstream media has been the attack on Hindi-speaking labourers, purportedly from Bihar, in Tamil Nadu. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav have also tweeted and appealed the TN officials to ensure the safety of Bihari labourers.
In total, 3 videos went viral on social media. In all these three videos, mobs can be seen attacking some workers-looking people. Social media claimed that the video were from Tamil Nadu where people from Bihar were attacked.
Sharing two videos in a tweet, a user wrote – “North Indians are being attacked in Tamil Nadu. Hindi speaking people are being attacked. The government of Bihar, the Government of Uttar Pradesh, Government of Jharkhand, all are silent. Such oppression of Hindi-speaking people has never been seen before in India. Attacks are being carried out with ‘swords’ and other weapons.”

Fact Check:
The DFRAC team has fact-checked all the 3 viral videos which is as below:
Fact Check of Viral Video-1:
In this viral video, it can be seen that some youths are attacking a young man with knives. To fact-check the video, the DFRAC team converted the video into several frames, then reverse-searched it. We found a report by ‘India Today’. It has been reported in this report that a gang of five people attacked two people with sharp weapons on a road in Coimbatore, in which one person died.
The police of Tamil Nadu has also mentioned that the vital video is of Coimbatore where groups of labourers from Bihar and Jharkhand fought with each other.
Fact Check of Viral Video 2:
Tamil Nadu Police has told about this second video that this video is of a fight between labourers of Bihar and Jharkhand in Chennai. It has nothing to do with the local people. At the same time, in the context of this incident, the Director General of the Police of Tamil Nadu has also issued a video and clarified. That is why the claim of social media users is wrong.
Fact Check of Viral Video 3:
To fact-check the video, the DFRAC team converted the video into several frames and reverse-searched it. Our team found that the video is of the murder of Advocate Jugraj Chauhan in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. It has nothing to do with Tamil Nadu. This video had earlier gone viral with the misleading claim that a temple priest was killed by Muslims in Rajasthan. The DFRAC’s fact-check can be read here where the entire issue is explained.
Conclusion:
It is clear from the fact-check of DFRAC that all three videos went viral on social media have been of different incidents and they were misleadingly shared with claims of attack on Hindi-speaking labourers being attacked in Tamil Nadu.
