A video is circulating on social media showing a Muslim elderly man allegedly being assaulted and mistreated by a group of people. The video is being shared with the claim that the incident took place in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh, where a Muslim elderly man was allegedly beaten and abused.
Sharing the video on Instagram, a user wrote, “Breaking News: A video has surfaced on social media from Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, showing an elderly Muslim man allegedly being beaten and mistreated. People have raised questions regarding the events shown in the viral video and demanded an impartial investigation into the matter.”

Fact check:
The DFRAC investigation found that the claim circulating on social media is misleading and that the viral video is not from Barabanki. The video is from an incident that took place recently in Noakhali, Bangladesh. Barabanki Police also spoke to DFRAC and denied the viral claim, stating that no such incident had taken place in the area.
For the investigation, we first converted the viral video into keyframes and conducted a reverse image search of these frames using Google Lens. We found the same video posted by several Bangladeshi users with captions in Bengali. A user named Kazi Mamun shared the video and wrote that an elderly man named Joynal Abedin had been handed over to the police on false allegations. According to the post, he is the younger brother of Hanif Chowdhury, former chairman of Char Jubilee Union and general secretary of the Subarnachar Upazila Awami League in Noakhali. The post further described him as a well-known businessman and a respectable person in the area and strongly condemned the incident.(English Translation)
Meanwhile, a page named Noakhali Insiders posted the same video with the caption: ‘NP brothers tortured a man the age of their father out of political vengeance, and also insulted his beard. Is it that easy? Remember, even if the account of power can be deferred in human courts, in the court of Allah, no identity, party, or influence will be of any use. One day you will have to answer for what you stood for that day by insulting the Sunnah of the Prophet. (English Translation)
The post condemned the incident and called for accountability. Additionally, MK TV – মানব কল্যাণ টিভি shared the video and stated that Joynal Abedin, described as a Jubo League leader, former chairman of Char Jubilee Union, and the younger brother of Subarnachar Upazila Awami League general secretary Hanif Chowdhury, had been detained by a mob in Char Kalara with yaba. (English Translation)
As part of the further investigation, the DFRAC team contacted Barabanki Sadar Police Station. Barabanki Police denied the viral claim and confirmed that no such incident had taken place in the area.
Conclusion:
The DFRAC fact check establishes that the video circulating on social media does not show an incident from Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. The video is from a recent incident in Noakhali, Bangladesh. Therefore, the claim made by social media users is misleading.
