Old Video of Gen Asim Munir’s 2022 LoC visit falsely shared as recent LoC visit

A video being shared widely on social media—especially from Pakistani accounts—claims to show Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Gen Asim Munir, recently visiting the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir to inspect operational readiness and boost the morale of troops due to rising regional tensions.

Accounts like South Asian Perspectives, Pakistan Armed Forces News, and many more have shared the video with similar claims.

Screenshot of a tweet from verified account 'South Asian Perspective' reporting that Pakistani social media accounts have shared a video showing Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir visiting the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir. The tweet mentions that the visit was to assess military preparedness and boost troop morale amid rising regional tensions. The image features General Munir and other soldiers walking through a fortified trench position in a mountainous area, with clear blue skies and rugged terrain visible in the background. The post references the source as 'Pakistan Armed Forces News' and includes national flags of Pakistan and India to highlight the geopolitical context.

Fact Check

Upon investigation, we found the claim to be misleading. Keyframes from the video were analyzed using reverse image search tools like Google Lens and InVID-WeVerify. Matches led to news articles and social media posts from late 2022, confirming the video’s original context.

A News report by Pakistani media outlet, The Dawn, published on December 3, 2022, highlighted that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement about Gen Asim Munir visiting frontline troops in the Rakhchikri Sector of LoC. The visuals and setting in that release match the video currently in circulation.

In the video, Gen Munir and accompanying officers are seen wearing cold-weather gear, which matches winter conditions in the LoC region, which coincided with the December 2022 visit. Current weather reports do not suggest such conditions.

Similar visuals were also published by the Pakistani media outlet Dawn News Urdu in 2022.

Conclusion

Thus, the fact check confirms that the viral claim is misleading—the video in question dates back to 2022 and is not related to any recent clashes at the Line of Control (LoC).
