Fact-check: Old Videos misleadingly linked to recent Indo-Pak LOC clash. Here’s the reality

Siddharth Urmil April 5, 2025
dfrac_feature_loc_april_5

Claim

Some videos are making rounds on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), first video showing an attack launched using Anti-missile tank while second video showing smoke emitting from a forest area. Several Pak-based users shared these videos and associated them with the current circumstances prevailing within Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. However, a recent Indo-Pak infiltration clash at the LOC was thwarted by the Indian forces.

Sharing the first video, a Pak-based user wrote: “An Indian military post is being destroyed by a Pakistani ATGM…. Clashes have begun on the line of control…… It seems it’s going to be pretty hot summer…..”

A viral claim shared by Adeel Murtaza (@murtaza_ad24907) has a video on social media platform, X (formerly Twitter). The post claimed the Pakistani military took action against Indian military post.

Moreover, second video has been shared with the claim: “Pakistan Army launched a rocket strike on an Indian Army post at the LOC.

Another user on X shared a video with claim saying, "Pakistan Army launched a rocket strike on an Indian Army post at the LOC.

Fact Check

To begin with, the DFRAC team investigated these posts and found them to be misleading.

Firstly, we examined this video by reverse-searching the keyframes generated from the above-viral video. We came across a similar video available on YouTube in the form of shorts, since 2018. The video’ s caption read: “Pakistan Army destroying Indian post with Anti-Tank Missile on LOC”

A short form video on YouTube, from 2018, depicting an act of aggression by Pakistani military against an Indian Military post.

Apart from this, the second video was found to be uploaded five years back.

A video depicting the same attack by Pakistani Military on Indian Military Post. This video is from September 2019.

Additionally, we cross-verified the claim by conducting a keyword search on google. No reports were appeared in the support of the above viral claim. Contrary to the claims, we found some of the reports from India Today and Bhasker English stating that the Indian Army killed 4-5 infiltrators in retaliatory firing after the Pakistan Army intruded into Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Tuesday for breaching the ceasefire agreement between the two nations. No casualties from the side of the Indian Army or property damage have been reported in the latest reports.

News reports by India Today and Bhaskar English telling about how Indian Army successfully spoiled an infiltration attempt by Pakistani side.

Conclusion

Hence, it is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the old videos have been misleadingly shared with a false claim. Certainly, sources or any credible evidences are not available supporting the claim made through the viral video.
