During the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya an unfortunate incident of a stampede had occurred on Maha Kumbh Mela, many were killed and injured.
Claim
Amid this background, a video is going viral on social media. The video depicts a crowded congregation of people. It has a header which says: “Look at the stampede-like situation in Maha Kumbh.”

This video was uploaded on 30 January 2025.
Fact Check
To investigate the claim, DFRAC did a reverse image search of a keyframe from the video. Many such false videos appeared. Among these videos, we found a video with Urdu description posted on Facebook. This video was uploaded on 29 January 2025.

We fetched the Urdu text from the video and on translation it read, “A dangerous accident in Kark Ambri Chowk.”
Taking this as lead, we searched about location mentioned as ‘Karak Ambri Chowk’ on Google Maps and it was found to be located in Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province of Pakistan. It is situated along the Indus Highway Road in the Ambri Kulla area.

Additionally, we searched about ‘Ambri Kulla Chowk Karak accident’. This led us to news report by The Express Tribune, a Pak-based media outlet, dated 11 January 2025 which informed about the accident which occurred after a uncontrolled lorry collided with multiple vehicles. At least 12 were killed and 13 injured during this ordeal.

The International News, a Pak-based media outlet, gave a similar details of the accident in Karak. It reported on 11 January 2025.
Conclusion
Thus, it is clear from the investigation that the viral video of an accident is not from Maha Kumbh Mela. In reality, the video is from Ambri Kulla Chowk which is located in Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, Pakistan.
The claim made in viral video is misleading.
