A claim is going viral on social media stating that the Indian Border Security Force killed a person named Akhtar Jamal at the India-Bangladesh border.
A user named Tactical Tribune shared a post claiming, “Indian forces brutally killed a person, Akhtar Jamal, at the Bangladeshi border of Tripura. Bangladesh has put its troops on alert after the incident.”

Fact Check:
The DFRAC team searched for the relevant keywords to verify the viral claim. We found a report on Hindusthan Samachar dated 5 February 2025 stating that a man who was crossing the Indian border in Tripura got shot by the BSF, which resulted in injuring him.
This incident happened near the Border Outpost (BOP) in the Sepahijala district. An investigation revealed the injured person is identified as Akhtar Jamal Roni, a resident of Putia, Boxanagar, Sepahijala, India. He accepted the fact that he was entering India from Bangladesh without any valid documents.

Besides this, a report by Indian Express dated 5 February 2025 states that a person accompanied by a woman ignored the warning from the BSF and tried to snatch away the sentry’s gun. A suspect smuggler got injured after a scuffle with a jawan of the Border Security Force in Tripura. The injured person was identified as Akhtar Jamal Roni.

Conclusion
The DFRAC’s fact check makes it clear that Akhtar Jamal Roni got shot by BSF jawans, after he tried to cross the India-Bangladesh border illegally. He got nominally injured by this incident. There is no media report which states about the death of Akhtar Jamal Roni. Therefore, the claims made by this user are misleading.
