Fake News alleging the killings of Indian soldiers goes viral. Here's the reality
A cold Sunday winter morning, along with a bright sunny afternoon, on Sunday (January 26, 2025) welcomed thousands of people at Kartavya Path as President Droupadi Murmu led India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as the special guest for the ceremony, in the national capital. With the theme of Swarnim Bharat: Virasat or Vikas, the celebrations showcased the highlights of Military prowess, cultural diversity, etc. During these celebrations, news about the Indian Army launched a search operation on Saturday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua after terrorists fired a few rounds hit the headlines in stream media. Amid this, a pak-based handle took to social media platform X(formerly Twitter). It claimed that four+ Indian soldiers were killed and multiple injured after Kashmiri fighters attacked an Indian Army forward operating base in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua.
Tactical Tribune X handle took to X and wrote: “4+ Indian soldiers killed, multiple injured after Kashmiri fighters attacked an Indian Army Forward Operating Base in Kathua”

Fact-Check
The DFRAC team investigated this claim and found the claim to be false.
We conducted a keyword search on Google and found no media report supporting this claim.
However, the latest reports from ETV Bharat, The Tribune, India Today & Rising Kashmir, stated that security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district launched a search operation after an early Saturday morning exchange of fire with suspected terrorists. No casualties were reported so far. Moreover, the search operation is still underway. According to the Army, three suspected terrorists are believed to have fled into a nearby forest.

Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the above-shared claim alleging the killing and injury of Indian soldiers is completely misleading. In reality, no casualties were reported so far following a brief exchange of fire between security forces and militants.
