On social media, news related to Israel-Hamas war has gone viral. While sharing the news users wrote “BREAKING: Egypt says if Donald Trump does not stop war in Gaza, it will take action against Israel.”

Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found the claim to be fake. We did not find any such official news regarding the viral claim. Contrary to this, we found multiple media reports regarding the news of Egypt and Israel.
According to the ‘Times of India’ report published on January 22, 2025, “Colonel Shemer Raviv, a senior Israeli military official, warned of escalating tensions along the Israel-Egypt border amid the Gaza ceasefire. He highlighted rising smuggling activities, including the use of drones to transport drugs and firearms.

Moreover, we also found a report from ‘Times of Israel’ published on January 21, 2025, which states, “After the deadly incident, ‘we decided to change our policy because we understood that the criminal smugglings are also a security danger,’ Raviv said. During the war with the Hamas terror group in Gaza that began a few months later, the IDF officially changed its open-fire regulations on the Egypt border, allowing troops to use deadly force against smugglers. Top officers instructed the Paran Brigade to prevent all attempts to cross the border or smuggle contraband over it.”

Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact check that the claim about Egypt threatening action against Israel over Gaza is fake. Egypt has not made such a statement, and the reports from credible sources focus on security concerns regarding smuggling activities along the Israel-Egypt border rather than any direct threat from Egypt.
