After former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh and the interim government was formed under the leadership of Mohammad Yunus, incidents of violence against minorities, especially Hindus, are being reported in Bangladesh.
Amid this, on social media, a video showing scenes of roasting human flesh has gone viral. While sharing the video users claim that “Hindu Gen0cide in Bangladesh. WAKE UP HINDUS BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.”
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found the claim is false. We found a similar video on Instagram uploaded on October 31, 2018 with the location “Hengqin, Guangdong, China”.
Moreover, we found a similar video was found in the footage with the caption “Halloween Party at Chimelong Ocean Park | Zhuhai, China | SviatMe” on the YouTube channel of ‘SviatMe’ dated October 27, 2018.
Furthermore, we also found Chinese report from ‘Sin Chew’, dated January 14, 2020, which included a screenshot from the video. The report stated that the video had previously been shared with the false claim that a restaurant in Nigeria was openly roasting human flesh. However, after an investigation, it was discovered that the video was actually filmed during a Halloween party at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom Theme Park in Zhuhai, China, in October 2018.
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video is from during a Halloween party at Chimelong Ocean Kingdom Theme Park in Zhuhai, China and dates back to 2018, not from Bangladesh. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
