Incomplete statement of Congress President Kharge goes viral with misleading claim. Here’s the Reality

A statement of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is making rounds on social media platform X(formerly twitter). In the statement, he can be heard saying, “Do you know what the Congress is doing? Congress are breaking into your house, dismantling your cupboards, taking out all the money and distributing it to everyone outside. They are distributing it to Muslims. Those who have more children will get more. Brother, if you don’t have children, what should I do?”

While sharing this statement of Kharge, a user wrote: “Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge is clearly saying in this video, Congress people will break into your house, break the cupboard, take out the money and distribute it among Muslims who have more children. And if Hindus have fewer children, what can I do about it?”

The DFRAC team investigated the viral video and found that this statement of Mallikarjun Kharge was from May 3, 2024 during the Lok Sabha elections that had been uploaded on the Congress’ official YouTube channel. In fact, Kharge’s statement can be heard at 31 minutes 50 seconds.

Mallikarjun Kharge addresses the Congress manifesto in his statement. He talks about equity and caste census. After this, he says, “So Modi sahab immediately said, do you know what the Congress is doing? The Congress are breaking into your house, dismantling the cupboard, taking out all the money and distributing it to everyone outside. They are distributing it to Muslims. Those who have more children will get more. Brother, if you don’t have children, what should I do?”
