On social media, news cutting of a newspaper is going viral. While sharing this news, a user claims that “Under the leadership of respected Modi ji, India became the leader in corruption in Asia! It is moving ahead strongly on the path to becoming a world leader!”
Fact Check
On investigation, DFRAC found that this news was from 2017. We found a tweet from Official X account of Forbes uploaded on Nov 19, 2017, with caption “Asia’s most corrupt countries: 1. India 2. Vietnam 3. Thailand”.
Moreover, we check the latest report of corruption list from Forbes, published on 8 Feb 2019 stating “Afghanistan is one of the most corrupt countries on earth”.
Furthermore, after 2019, Forbes did not published any reports regarding the corruption list.
Conclusion
It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that the viral news cutting of newspaper is associated with 2017 forbes report, not from any recent report. Therefore, the claim of social media users is misleading.
