A video shared by Swatantra Patrakar (Independent Journalist) with the username journalistkk01 is currently circulating on the social media platform X that shows a disturbing scene. In the footage, a man can be seen standing on a wooden plank. Suddenly, another individual enters the frame and proceeds to shoot the man repeatedly. The caption accompanying this video makes a sensational claim, describing it as a “Murder done in a filmy style.” Furthermore, the post asserts that this incident took place in Muzaffarnagar district, located in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.
Fact Check
DFRAC conducted a fact check and upon a thorough fact check of credible news sources, we discovered that the video in question does not depict an incident from Muzaffarnagar or any part of India. The footage actually shows a tragic event that occurred in Brazil. The victim in the video has been identified as Lucas Pereira, a 21-year-old man known by the nickname “Olhão”. According to the information we found, Pereira was executed by gunmen associated with the PCC (Primeiro Comando da Capital), a Brazilian criminal organization. This brutal act took place while Pereira was working at a commercial establishment on Penetração 2 street in the Novo Aleixo neighborhood, located in the North zone of Manaus, a city in Brazil.
To further discover the misattribution of this video, we located an official statement from the Muzaffarnagar police. In a video release, police officer Rupali Rao can be seen providing a clear clarification. She explicitly states that this video has absolutely no connection to Muzaffarnagar district. Hence the claim is false.
Conclusion
It is clear DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video in question depicting a brutal murder of a painter in Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh is entirely misleading and false. The fact check reveals that the incident actually occurred in Manaus, Brazil, and has no relation to Muzaffarnagar or India. Hence the claim is false.
