Account named Ironclad operating under the username @NavCom24 shared these images on X and wrote: “Young man who refused to say ‘Pakistan Murdabad’ killed by Indian forces in Srinagar”
The account is withheld in India and has been observed sharing plethora of misinformation on X .
In addition to that, the images were shared by various pak-based handles on X with similar claims.
Fact-Check
To verify the authenticity of this post, the DFRAC team reverse-searched these images on Google and found a video on YouTube account of Kashmir Pulse. The video depicted the same young man as seen in the above viral images getting maltreated by some Army officials in a vehicle.
The video was uploaded 7 years back with the title: “Army beating Kashmiri youth to chant ‘Pakistan Murdabad”
For the investigation of claim made through the viral images, we conducted a keyword search on google in this regard. No such reports or news articles have been found citing that the young man seen in the viral images was killed by the Indian forces in Srinagar.
It seems like that images from a 2017 video clip were falsely employed a baseless claim to mislead the users on the Internet.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the viral images of a young man in uncomfortable state have been misleadingly shared on X. In reality, the images are from a 2017 video clip. Therefore, the claim made by Pak-based handles is false.
