A social media user Geroman time will tell on his X account @GeromanAT shared an image of the esteemed newspaper The Telegraph, depicting Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with a sensational headline that reads “Ukraine knows it is finished”
Fact Check
DFRAC’s team fact-checked the claim and after conducting reverse image search and investigating credible news sources and media reports it was revealed that the claim made by the social media user @GeromanAT is misleading and false because no such image with the claimed headline could be found.
Additionally we checked the official website of The Telegraph and after searching thoroughly by going through the articles and archives no such news piece with the headline “Ukraine knows it is finished” could be found. However, on investigating further we came across a similar image that was indeed published by The Telegraph on their official website, but with a different headline which stated “Without Western armaments, Ukraine may only have months left”.
Here is graphic image displaying both the original and digitally altered version.
Conclusion
Based on the evidence gathered, the claim that The Telegraph published an article with the headline “Ukraine knows it is finished” alongside the image of President Zelenskyy is false. The image in question was manipulated, digitally altered or fabricated as The Telegraph did not publish any such article with that specific headline. While The Telegraph did use a similar image, the actual headline was different and conveyed a different message. Therefore, the social media user’s claim is deemed to be misleading, as it misrepresents the factual reporting of The Telegraph.
