Fact Check: Did the Iranian Forces seize an Israel-linked cargo ship?

An image is going viral on X (formerly Twitter) which seemingly shows the seizing of an Israel-linked cargo ship by the Iranian forces. It is said to have 25 crew members on board and was steering towards Iran.

Fact Check

Upon reverse image searching however, the DFRAC team found that the image was taken almost a year back, on April 27th of 2023. It shows the capture of a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman heading to the U.S. amid tensions over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Conclusion

Therefore, it is confirmed by DFRAC that the viral image showing Israel-linked cargo ship being seized by the Iranian forces is not as recent as it is made out to be. Moreover, contrary to the viral claim, it is the seizing of China’s US-bound oil tanker Advantage Sweet, not an Israel-linked cargo ship.
