Was a Muslim boy attacked when refused to call Jai Shri Ram slogans? Read the reality

A claim has gone viral about an incident that happened in UP’s Ghaziabad. It has been claimed by an X user, “3 Hindus brutally killed a Muslim boy with a sharp axe in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad. They asked Momin to chant “Jai Sriram” which he refused to do. So they killed him.”

Fact Check

We investigated the viral claim and found an official statement of DCP TRANS HINDON COMMISSIONERATE GHAZIABAD (@DCPTHindonGZB) on X. In a press note, they informed, “The friends (Gaurav, Ankit, Raju, Momin) all sat together and drank alcohol, during which Momin, under the influence of alcohol, said some abusive words to Gaurav. There was an argument between all of us regarding this matter and then a fight broke out. Gaurav attacked Momin with an axe, due to which Momin got seriously injured.

Throughout the police statement, no mention of a fight about non-calling of ‘Jai shree ram’ slogans was found. Furthermore, no communal angle was also mentioned by the police.
