A video is going viral on social media platform X(Twitter) showing a policeman beaten up by some locals in a rural area. Users on X are sharing this video and claiming that lower-caste people beat up policemen for abusing women.
An account named Crimes Reports India, better known for disseminating misinformation regarding India, shared this video on X(Twitter) and claimed: ” Uttar Pradesh: Upper Caste Police was beaten up by Lower Caste Harijans for abusing women”
In addition to that, this video was re-quoted by many users on X(Twitter).
Fact-Check
To determine the reality of the above viral video, the DFRAC team converted it into keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. Meanwhile, we found a tweet on the official X handle of the Agra police. According to this tweet, the Police team arrested 2 accused who attacked the forest department team during checking and Patrolling. No caste angle has been found in this case.
Furthermore, we also discovered a statement byte given by a police official revealing that some locals started attacking the cops after locals were asked by the cops to stop fishing in a nearby water body. The Basauni police station has also taken legal action while receiving the complaint, regarding the viral video related to the assault on the cops during checking and patrolling.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the viral video claiming a policeman was beaten up by lower castes for abusing women is misleading as the locals attacked the cops after they were urged to stop fishing in a nearby water body. Moreover, no caste angle has been discovered in this case.
