Fact-Check
To investigate the claim made through the above viral video, the DFRAC team converted it into some keyframes and reverse-searched it on Google. Meanwhile, we found a similar video in the form of shorts on a YouTube channel named El Leyla Official with the description: “Umrah 2022 – Indonesian Pilgrims Visit Quba Mosque“. Moreover, the video was posted in 2022. The people in the viral video were wearing similar robes to those in the YouTube video.
Upon investigating further, we also found a media report by CNN Indonesia which also shows individuals in saffron robes. In this description of this report, CNN Indonesia stated: “After 5 years of saving together with residents of one village in Ngoro District, Jombang, East Java, we were finally able to go on Umrah together”.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s fact-check that the viral video claiming Bhagwa hues in Mecca is misleading as the Individuals depicted in the viral video are Indonesian pilgrims.
