A claim is going viral on social media stating that Indian T-20 captain Surya Kumar Yadav dropped upper caste Mukesh Kumar from playing -11 against Australia and included Avesh Khan in the team for social justice. There is 1 Sikh, 1 Muslim and 7 SC-OBC in the team.
Sharing an image of Indian Cricketer Avesh Khan, a user named ANIL wrote: “If leadership is in the hands of Yadav, then social justice will be achieved. Captain @surya_14kumar has dropped Mukesh Kumar of General Cast from the playing eleven under social justice, Avesh Khan has been included in the team in his place. Today there is one Sikh and one Muslim in the playing eleven, 7 SC, OBC and two 52,” (English Translation)
Fact-Check
The DFRAC team investigated the above viral claim and found a tweet on Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s official X(Twitter) handle stating that Mukesh Kumar had requested to release himself for the marriage after which BCCI included Deepak Chahar in team in his place.
BCCI also stated that Mukesh will participate in the fourth T-20 to be held in Raipur.
Following this, we found numerous media reports covering the news regarding Mukesh Kumar‘s marriage.
Conclusion
It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that Mukesh Kumar has been released from the team by BCCI for marriage. Therefore, the claim of social media users stating that Indian T-20 Captain Surya Kumar Yadav had dropped upper caste Mukesh Kumar from the team for social justice is fake.
