A claim is going viral on social media platform X stating that Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar raped Karuna Yadav resident of Bhandara, Maharashtra in 1954.
X user named @_Hindu_Hu shared an image of a post carrying the text which claimed that BR Ambedkar was the first rapist of Independent India.
The same claim was shared by @Kunwarchainsin2 and @PollBaBa3 earlier in March 2023.
Fact Check
To investigate the truth behind the viral claim, the DFRAC team searched for some keywords on Google. During this process, we didn’t find any information regarding the claim from reliable sources.
Furthermore, our team looked at the book of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar: Articles and Statements Part 3 Section 40. In this book, information was given about all the meetings of Baba Saheb on pages 323 to 342. It was mentioned on page no. 324 that he addressed a public meeting on charity on 24 January 1954 on the grounds of St Xaviers College, Mumbai. On page 331, it was also mentioned that he had gone from Nagpur to Bhandara to campaign for the by-election on 21 April 1954.
Conclusion
Therefore, it is clear from the DFRAC’s fact check that the claim stating Ambedkar raped Karuna Yadav is misleading. In his book, it was mentioned that Baba Saheb had gone to Bhandara for the by-election on 21 April 1954 whereas the claim of rape is made on 20 January 1954.
