A picture is going viral on social media with the claim that Egypt President El Sisi has sent an aid convoy to Gaza- Palestine. According to users, El Sisi has said that Rafa crossing will open when the convoy arrives.
An account on X named @realwajidkhan, shared a picture and wrote, “In direct action against Israel, Egypt’s president orders a massive humanitarian convoy into Gaza even as Israel bombs the Rafah crossing. The intersection will open when the convoy arrives We will see if Israel bombs the aid convoy as they promised”(Translated in English)
Claim made by other users
In addition to this, other users on social media also shared the similar claim along with the same picture.
Fact Check
To investigate the truth about the viral claim, the DFRAC team, by putting some key frames of the picture, we reverse searched it on Google. During the process, we found some media reports which were dated back to 2014 along with the viral picture.
Media Coverage
We found two media reports through which it is clear that the picture is from Russia, 2014 during the Ukraine crisis.
A report from The Independent stated: “Ukraine crisis: Russian ‘aid’ convoy heads straight for rebels in Luhansk as fears intensify of ‘direct invasion”
Another media report from BBC captioned “Ukraine crisis: Russia aid convoy ‘invades Ukraine’”
Conclusion
Thus, it is clear from DFRAC’s fact check that this claim is misleading, as no media report has been found claiming that Egypt President has issued a threatening order to Israel or has sent any aid convoy.
