The J&K Police on 15 September 2023, Friday, arrested journalist, Majid Hyderi after they lodged a case against him following a court’s order, in Srinagar. Below is their tweet.
Following his arrest news, Mehbooba mufti shared a tweet on 15 september, where she claimed ,”Majid Hyderi was dragged from his home like a wanted terrorist without following any legalities. His mother & sister pleaded to see a warrant but this too was denied.”
She added that journalists who uncover scams are often accused of intimidation and defamation.

DFRAC investigated the claim. We found that srinagar police termed Muftis ’claim as misleading.
They shared a tweet where they stated,”It is clarifed that all legal procedures of formal arrest as mandated by law were fully followed. Family was clearly informed about the order of Hon’ble court regarding this.It is requested to kindly not fall prey to misinformation campaign by vested interests.”
We also found the media reports which clarified that Mehbooba Mufti’s claim is misleading. As formal arrest with lawfull procedures were followed by Srinagar police.
