The news is getting viral on social media platforms, claiming that IRCTC has banned non-veg food during the month of Sawan. Non-veg food is not available for railway passengers who are going to Bihar, Jharkhand via Varanasi during the month of Sawan.

The month of sawan holds massive significance in Hindu dharma. It is the time of enhancing spirituality by fasting and worshiping the Hindu deity Lord Shiva.

Zee Bihar Jharkhand recently posted a video on Twitter and wrote : “Initiative of IRCTC in Sawan..Non-veg food at food plaza of railway station banned…”

Not only this, but also according to the website of Amar Ujala, IRCTC will only serve vegetarian food on trains and railway stations till the month of Sawan. Non-veg is missing from their menu. Another news website, News8plus has also claimed this news.

A page by the name of Team Prachand on Facebook has also endorsed this news by writing a caption: “The month of Sawan will start from today, 4th July and will continue till 31st August. In such a situation, a ban has been imposed on serving non-veg food at Bhagalpur railway station in Bihar. During this month, only vegetarian food will be served. Pankaj Kumar, manager of Bhagalpur food service stall, said that during Sawan, special care will be taken that there is no garlic and onion in the food.

Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will also arrange fruits in Sawan. The month of Sawan will end on August 31, in which there will be eight Mondays. In such a situation, IRCTC is taking special care of the passengers so that there is no problem regarding food and beverages during the fast of Sawan”.

The team of DFRAC has searched for some keywords to know the truth behind this viral news. The team found some media reports and tweets during this process.

The official account of IRCTC wrote on Twitter : “No such instruction has been issued by IRCTC. All approved items are available for sale to passengers from food outlets. Food without onion and garlic will also be available as per the choice of the passengers”.

According to the website Postoast and zeenews.com, IRCTC has refuted the claims of not serving non-veg food during the month of sawan.

Conclusion

It is clear from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the viral news, claiming non-veg will not serve during the month of sawan is fake since Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Cooperation (IRCTC) refuted this claim. In addition to that, all approved food items would continue to be available for sale to passengers from the food unit.
