Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi is on a tour of America, where he addressed a meeting organized by Indians in San Francisco, during which he also made several comments on BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At the same time, a video of this program is going viral on social media, which is being shared to claim that the national anthem was insulted in the presence of Rahul Gandhi.
Sharing this video, a user wrote- “All this is insulting the national anthem in the company of Rahul Gandhi @RahulGandhi.. and the whole people are seeing the future Prime Minister in Rahul Gandhi.”
यह सब कुछ राहुल गांधी @RahulGandhi के सानिध्य में राष्ट्रगान का अपमान हो रहा है..😲

Fact Check
The DFRAC team first tried to find out if the people present at the event were sitting during the national anthem in Rahul Gandhi’s meeting in America. We searched YouTube in the context of Rahul Gandhi’s rally where we found a video uploaded on the official YouTube channel of Indian National Congress.
At 51 minutes 35 seconds of this video, the national anthem is announced, and at 52:00 minutes it can be seen that all the people present in the assembly stand up for the national anthem. During this, the national anthem is sung, and after that, all the people present in the meeting start taking selfies with Rahul Gandhi.
In the context of the viral video, we found a tweet by a user named Maya Vishwakarma. She says in the context of the viral video that- “I was an eyewitness to this incident. The video you posted was a rehearsal of the pre event and @RahulGandhi was not there. I am sharing the actual video when he arrived and we all sang the national anthem. Please stop spreading half truths.”

Conclusion:
DFRAC’s fact check reveals that the viral video is from before Rahul Gandhi reached the meeting. Rahul Gandhi later reached the gathering and addressed the people, after which everyone stood for the national anthem. Hence it is clear that the claim of insulting the national anthem in the presence of Rahul Gandhi is false.
