A misleading claim is going viral on social media regarding India’s former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi. Users are claiming an extraordinary coincidence on the birthdays of these politicians. According to the viral claim, Manmohan Singh’s birthday is on September 26, which is observed as “International Day for the Deaf.” Sonia Gandhi’s birthday is on December 9, which is celebrated as “International Anti-Corruption Day” by the United Nations. Rahul Gandhi was born on December 18, 1970, and the film “Mera Naam Joker” was released on the same day.

Verified users Vivek Pandey and Manoj Singh tweeted about this claim.

Is Manmohan Singh’s birthday celebrated as “International Day for the Deaf”?

According to the website www.pmindia.gov.in  Dr. Manmohan Singh was born on September 26, 1932. However, when we checked the United Nations website, we found that September 26 is celebrated as the “International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.” We also found that September 23 is celebrated as the “International Day of Sign Languages” by the United Nations. We did not find any day related to “International Day for the Deaf” on the UN website.

Sonia Gandhi’s birthday is on December 9, 1946. The UN website lists December 9 as the “International Anti-Corruption Day.” The convention was implemented in December 2005.

Rahul Gandhi was born on June 19, 1970. The claim that his birthday is on December 18, the day when the film “Mera Naam Joker” was released, is false. We found that the film was released on December 18, 1970. According to the official Congress party website, Rahul Gandhi was born on June 19, 1970.
