A video is becoming increasingly viral on social media. It can be seen in this video that a young man is being thrashed fiercely by many other youths. Twitter users sharing this video are claiming that a boy named Dilshad in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut used to blackmail a Hindu girl as a result of unrequited love, threatening to throw acid on her. After which the girl’s brothers thrashed him fiercely.
Sharing this video, a verified user named Ashish Vyas wrote – “Feeling happy that Hindus are waking up. Our sisters and daughters have also started knowing these Jihadis. Dilshad Khan s/0 Nasibuddin District Meerut Uttar Pradesh This puncture puttar used to threaten the Hindu girl Nisha that he would kidnap her repeatedly, sometimes threatening to throw acid as well. At the same time, another user also tweeted this video. This tweet has gotten more than four thousand likes and more than one thousand retweets.
Not only these but various other accounts are also sharing this video.
Fact Check:
To fact-check the viral video, the DFRAC team converted the video into multiple frames and reverse-searched. We also found a clarification from the Meerut Police from their official twitter account in this regard. They refuted the claims that this incident took place in Meerut.
Meerut police revealed that the video is from Bhopal. Consequently, we investigated in this context. We found a video uploaded on October 31, 2022 by News18 MP Chhattisgarh. It was the same one which went viral on Twitter. According to this report, the young man was beaten up due to an old enmity.
Conclusion:
It is clear from the fact check of the DFRAC team that the video going viral is not from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh but from Bhopal and the youth was beaten up due to old enmity. There is no communal angle in this which is why this claim by social media users is misleading.
