A graphical poster is going viral on social media. In this poster, a claim is being made about West Bengal’s ruling party TMC, and its Muslim leader Shaukat Ali. This graphical poster caption- “The Hindus of Bengal are also very great. TMC’s Shaukat Ali, who stopped “Durga Visarjan”, won the election from 75% of the “Hindu-dominated” area by 55 thousand votes. Now the “Hindus” are fleeing the house from there..!”
This graphical poster has been posted by a user named ‘Queen of Jhansi’. The post has been liked by more than 1200 people and re-tweeted by more than 700 people so far.

Fact Check:
To fact-check the viral graphical claim, we gathered information about Shaukat Ali. We saw the list of MLAs on the West Bengal Assembly website http://www.wbassembly.gov.in/. It was revealed that The TMC MLA from the Canning Purba seat is Shaukat Mulla and he is the only MLA by the name of Shaukat.
According to www.oneindia.com, the Canning Purba assembly seat falls under the South 24-Parganas district of the state. In 2021, Shaukat Mollah of TMC won the seat by defeating Ghazi Shahabuddin Siraji from Rashtriya Secular Majlis Party with a margin of 53007 votes.

At the same time, when we searched Google to know the status of voters on the basis of caste and religion in the Canning Purba assembly seat, we found a report from https://chanakyya.com. This report states that the Muslim voters in the Canning Purba assembly seat are around 133,384, which is about 55.7% as per the voter list analysis. This is followed by scheduled caste voters at around 56,515, which is around 23.6% as per the 2011 census. St voters are around 11,854, which is about 4.95%.
Our team searched Google to stop the Durga Puja immersion by Shaukat Mulla. We have not found any such media report in this regard. Apart from this, we found a video on YouTube, in which it can be seen that Shaukat Mulla is sitting in the Durga Puja pandal.

Conclusion:
It is clear from DFRAC fact check that the claim being made on social media is false. Shaukat Mulla won the canning Purba assembly seat from where he won the election, the number of Muslim voters is about 56 percent. At the same time, we did not get any media report regarding MLA Shaukat Mulla stopping the Durga Puja immersion.
