A piece of news is doing rounds on the internet. A social media user shared the screenshot with breaking news plates of Apb News, along with the caption, “there is no Waqf board anywhere in 56 Islamic countries, why is it only in secular country India? If you understand, it will be good.” {English Tranlation}
Similarly, many other users have shared this claim.
Fact Check
Using simple keyword search, the DFRAC team found many Islamic countries have waqf boards. Waqf is a charitable land in Islam. The official site of the Indonesian waqf board can be seen here. In Egypt, there is a dedicated Ministry of Awqaf of Egypt that administer religious endowments. Similarly, the Bangladesh Office of Waqf Administrator under the Ministry of Religious Affairs administers waqf. These three of them are Muslim countries. Further, many other Muslim majority countries like Jordan, and Saudi Arabia have bodies to administer Waqf.
Conclusion
Therefore, the claim that, “there is no Waqf board anywhere in 56 Islamic countries, why is it only in secular country India.” is misleading.
