A picture of PM Narendra Modi is becoming viral on social media. The image was shared by a Pakistani Twitter handle named Pakistan Strategic Forum claimed that the CM of Assam is advocating for the “reintegration” of Bangladesh into India. A thread was shared by the account which stated that “Embarrassment for Bangladeshi people to see that during Bangladesh Prime Minister’s visit to India, the CM of Assam and a member of the ruling BJP party is advocating for the “reintegration” of Bangladesh into India and asking his colleagues to “work for Akhand Bharat”.
Further, it stated, “This shows how low of a view Indian leadership place towards Bangladeshi national sovereignty, and cements the view in the region that the Government of Bangladesh is a proxy puppet of the Indian BJP/RSS Establishment, and will follow their orders with no regard to their national interests and integrity. A sad state of affairs to see such acquiesce and deference at the state-level from Bangladesh.”
Soon the tweet became viral with hundredths of retweet and like.
Fact Check
On the official website of the Press Information Bureau (PIB), we found a viral image. In the description of the picture it was mentioned, “The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi signing the visitor’s book at the Bangabandhu Mausoleum Complex, in Tungipara, Bangladesh on March 27, 2021. The Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Ms. Sheikh Hasina is also seen.”
Conclusion Therefore, the viral image is false and was shared in an absolutely wrong context. There is a deliberate attempt to create issues between Indo-Bangladesh relations. In the past also this account has shared misleading information on CDS Bipin Rawat’s death which we have covered in the report, “Misleading Statements Were Spread by Pakistani Handles Post General Rawat’s Accident.”
