Fact Check: Deceptive photo of BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain entering the temple goes viral on social media

Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui August 24, 2022 2 min read

A massive controversy started after Minister Israel Mansoori entered the Vishnupad temple in Gaya, Bihar. Hinduist organizations are alleging that there is a ban on the entry of non-Hindus into the temple. Opening a front against the Bihar government, Hindutva organizations and BJP have called it hurting Hindu sentiments.

At the same time, a photo of former minister and BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain is going viral on social media. It is seen in this photo that Shahnawaz Hussain is sitting with some saints. While sharing this photo, a user wrote – ” If the son-in-law is a Muslim then the temple is not impure.” {English Translation}

While sharing this photo, JDU’s state spokesperson Abhishek Jha wrote- “Now BJP people who are shouting, what will they say on this picture?? India is a democratic country, which is why take off the spectacles of religion and live in an atmosphere of equality for all religions. There will be peace ” {English Translation}

Bihar’s journalist Ved Prakash wrote- ” Son-in-law came to the temple.. “

Fact Check:

To fact-check the viral, we did a reverse image search. We found this photo posted on the official Facebook account of BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain on 3 October 2017.

Sharing this photo, Shahnawaz Hussain wrote- “Today I attended the World Religion Conference organized on the occasion of 1000th birth anniversary of Shri Ramanujacharya Ji at Chandava Mahayagya in Arrah! In the yoga, took blessings from the world-famous saint Shri Jiya Swami Ji Maharaj and addressed the devotees present! ,

Conclusion:

After fact-checking the photo, it is clear that this photo is not of Shahnawaz Hussain entering the temple, but this photo is of his attending the World Religion Conference. Hence, the claim being made by social media users is misleading.

Claim- Shahnawaz Hussain had entered the temple

Claimant- Social media users
