A viral video claims that climate activist Greta Thunberg joined Indian students in London to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
A Facebook page recently posted Thunberg’s video with the caption: “Today a surprise speaker Great Thunberg came to the protest in solidarity with the Indian youth & students at Trafalgar Square, London. Go GenZ!! Break all the barriers! Don’t let the barricades slow you down! The State is already on the backfoot! It’s time to push harder”

Fact:
DFRAC team found this claim to be false. A reverse image search traced the footage to July 26, 2026, when @GretaThunberg addressed a gathering organised by the Students’ Federation of India’s UK unit (SFI-UK) in London. A video shared by National Herald on July 27 reported that she expressed support for Indian student protesters, urged international solidarity and described their movement as an example of “people power.”
Reports by India Today, NDTV, DW News and ThePrint also covered her appearance. According to ThePrint, the gathering was organised to mark the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following student-led protests over alleged examination irregularities. Thunberg voiced solidarity with the students and connected their demands for justice with wider struggles for democracy and liberation.
Conclusion:
Therefore, the video dates to July 26, 2026, and shows Greta Thunberg supporting Indian student protesters in London regarding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, not joining the current anti-CEC demonstration.
