Several alleged statements by yoga guru Baba Ramdev are going viral on social media. Users are widely sharing these statements as genuine. One such video that is currently being widely circulated purportedly shows Baba Ramdev with folded hands, apologising to the Congress party. In the viral video, Baba Ramdev can allegedly be heard saying: “The Congress government may have been whatever it was, but it was not dictatorial. Inflation and unemployment were under control. The media in our country tarnished the image of Congress, and I was no less responsible for it. Forgive me.”
Sharing the video, a user named India गठबंधन wrote: “The Congress government may have been whatever it was, but it was not dictatorial. Inflation and unemployment were under control. The media in our country tarnished the image of Congress, and I was no less responsible for it. Baba Ramdev.”

Another user, Pradeep Gupta, shared the video and wrote: “Baba Ramdev has also become fed up with the BJP. One by one, everyone is leaving the Bhim Janata Party. Everyone has understood their reality. They will again be reduced to 2 seats, traitors.”

Fact check:
The DFRAC team found that the claim is misleading and that Baba Ramdev did not make any such statement. Our investigation found that the audio in the viral video has been AI-manipulated. After analysing the video, AI expert Mayank Sharma also confirmed that the viral video of Baba Ramdev is AI-manipulated.
We searched Google using several keywords related to Baba Ramdev allegedly apologising to the Congress. However, we did not find any media reports covering any such statement or apology by Baba Ramdev.For further investigation, our team analysed the video using AI-detection tools Hive Moderation and DetectVideo.ai. The results indicated that the viral video had been manipulated using AI. Hive Moderation detected 99.3% probability of audio manipulation in the viral video of Baba Ramdev. Meanwhile, DetectVideo.ai indicated that the video was 69% manipulated.

Further investigation revealed that a Navbharat Times postcard containing the same alleged statement by Baba Ramdev had also recently gone viral. The purported statement read: “The Congress government may have been whatever it was, but it was not dictatorial. It kept inflation and unemployment under control. The media and journalists in our country tarnished the image of Congress, and I was no less responsible for it. Forgive me.” Navbharat Times had declared the postcard fake. In a post on its X account, Navbharat Times stated: “For the past few days, several fake posts are being circulated on social media in the name of NBT, through which attempts are being made to spread misleading and false information. For the authenticity of any news and official information, rely only on NBT’s official social media handles and platforms.”
For a more detailed analysis of the viral video, our team contacted AI expert Mayank Sharma. He said that Baba Ramdev’s statement in the video is AI-manipulated, citing several indicators. For instance, at around the 4-second mark, Baba Ramdev does not appear to be speaking, while his alleged statement can be heard in the background. During this portion, the bike IDs of media personnel visible in front of Baba Ramdev also suddenly disappear. Additionally, a Grok watermark can be seen at the bottom of the viral video, indicating that the video may have been created or manipulated with the help of Grok.

Conclusion:
The DFRAC fact-check establishes that the claim circulating on social media is misleading. The viral video of Baba Ramdev apologising to the Congress is AI-manipulated, and Baba Ramdev did not make the alleged statement apologising to the Congress.
