A video is going viral on social media. In the video, a group of people can be seen questioning and misbehaving with some youths. Social media users are claiming that the video is from Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh, and are giving it a “Love Jihad” angle, alleging that three Muslim youths had lured and brought along two minor Hindu girls.

Sharing this video on Instagram, a user named kattar_hindu_mandsaur_ wrote: “Today, a case of Love Jihad was caught at Royal Pizza located in Makrand Nagar, Kannauj, where 3 youths from the Muslim community had lured away 2 Hindu minor daughters. As soon as local Hindu brothers got information about this, they reached there. Upon asking their names, they gave their names as Pintu, Rajesh, and Deepak. When questioned strictly, they revealed their real names. Then we brothers caught them and handed them over to the police. Each youth was operating seven different IDs, which contained a lot of chats with Hindu girls.” (English Translation)

Meanwhile, another user wrote, ‘In Kannauj, 2 Hindu girls were caught with 3 Muslim boys. It is fine that the boys are being ‘dealt with’, but the girls are no less guilty. Their parents or neighbors should be called and their deeds exposed so that they are not able to show their faces anywhere.’

The DFRAC team found during its investigation that this claim is misleading. According to the Kannauj Police, the meeting between the youth was accidental, and no facts related to any kind of criminal activity or illegal act came to light. In reference to the viral video, we checked the official X handle of the Kannauj Police, @kannaujpolice. We found that the viral video was posted by a user, and in response to it, the Kannauj Police provided information about the incident.”

According to the Kannauj Police, “In this regard, it is to be informed that during the investigation, it was found that the concerned youths arrived at Royal Pizza, Makarand Nagar independently at different times. No facts related to any criminal activity or illegal act came to light during inquiry and verification. The investigation also revealed that the concerned boy and girl had studied together in the past, and they happened to converse when they ran into each other unexpectedly. Some individuals questioned them due to a misunderstanding. Neither party has demanded any kind of legal action in this matter.” ( English Translation)

The statement issued by the Kannauj Police makes it clear that there is no “Love Jihad” angle to the incident shown in the viral video. According to the police, the youths arrived at Royal Pizza in Makarand Nagar independently at different times, and no evidence of any criminal or illegal activity was found during the inquiry and verification process.
