A video circulating on social media shows a commotion during Namaz. It is being shared with the claim that Muslims intentionally pray on the streets to disturb peace and were stopped by Hindus.
While sharing the video, a user named Hindutva Don wrote in the caption: Mullas intentionally offer Namaz on the roads to disturb harmony, but our Hindu brothers stopped them firmly. We need more such aware Hindus.
Fact Check:
The DFRAC team investigated the viral video and found that it is not recent, but from a 2021 dispute over Namaz in Gurugram, Haryana. The same video was uploaded on a YouTube channel named Mojo Story on December 4, 2021 with the caption:Gurugram | Hindutva groups again raise ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans, disrupt Namaz | Several people detained.
Additionally, information provided with a video uploaded on theHaryana Tak YouTube channel on December 4, 2021 states that a confrontation arose following protests over Friday prayers (Juma Namaz) in Gurugram’s Sector 37. The report mentions that the ground in Sector 37 was one of the designated sites where the administration had permitted the Muslim community to offer Namaz. However, some Hindu organizations opposed this administrative decision and had been consistently protesting against it.
Further keyword searches on Google related to the Gurugram Namaz controversy did not yield any recent reports of such an incident. For additional verification, our team contacted Haryana-based journalist Sunil Kumar, who confirmed that the video is from an old dispute.
Conclusion:
DFRAC’s fact-check clarifies that the video being shared on social media is not from a recent incident. It dates back to a controversy over Namaz in Gurugram in December 2021. Therefore, the claim being made by users is misleading.
