Fact Check Fact Check en

A collage of two videos has been shared on social media claiming to show a recent protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. One video also claims that protesters set fire to a BJP office. In the first video, a large crowd of people can be seen trying to break down a gate, while the second video shows a building on fire with smoke billowing out.

Sharing the collage of both videos, a user named Jeetu Burdak wrote, “Massive protest against Modi Ji begins. Protesting public set the BJP office on fire?”

Additionally, this video has been shared on Facebook with claims of a recent protest against PM Modi and the BJP, which can be seen here and here.

Fact Check

The DFRAC team’s investigation of the viral video found that neither video is from recent protests, but from old demonstrations. The first is an old video from a protest in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, while the second video is from September 2025, showing the BJP office being set on fire in Leh, Ladakh. Our team fact-checked both videos separately.

Fact Check of First Video:

Upon reverse image searching the key frames of the video, we found this video posted on a Facebook account named Jagat Martoliya, with information stating: “Protesters who broke through the gate of the District Magistrate’s office in Pithoragarh entered the campus! We want justice on our terms! Not on the government’s terms! The government lies, which is why Nanhi Pari’s killers were acquitted…” For more information on this matter, our team contacted Jagat Martoliya. He told us that this video is from a protest in Pithoragarh in September, when people gathered at the DM office to demand justice for Nanhi Pari.

Fact Check of Second Video:

Upon reverse image searching the key frames of the second video, we found this video and its screenshots in several media reports, including The Times of India and ABP News. This video is related to the incident of the BJP office being set on fire during protests in Leh, Ladakh, in September. TOI’s report dated September 24, 2025, stated: “Protests took place in the Leh area of Union Territory Ladakh, in which protesters set fire to the BJP office in the city, threw stones, and clashed with police.” Meanwhile, ABP News’s report dated September 24, 2025, published CM Omar Abdullah’s reaction to the BJP office burning incident.

Conclusion:

DFRAC’s fact check makes it clear that the video collage shared on social media is of old incidents from two different states. The first video is from a protest in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, while the second is an old video of the BJP office being set on fire in Ladakh. Therefore, the users’ claim is misleading.
