Originally from Jayashankar Bhupalpally district of Telangana, M Nageswara Rao is a retired IPS officer. He has been the former director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He describes himself as an autocratic Hindu and a contemporary writer in his Twitter bio.
Nageswara Rao, a resident of Jaishankar Bhupalpally district of Telangana, is a 1986 batch officer of the Indian Police Service of Odisha cadre. He has served as Additional Director General of Police in Odisha Police and as CBI Chief of Chennai Zone. He has been considered very close to RSS leaders.
Is he an orthodox Hindu?
Nageshwar Rao describes himself as an autocratic Hindu. But a look at the Twitter timeline reveals that he is a staunch orthodox Hindu while being an autocrat. His tweets and some articles point to this. He can be seen as a staunch supporter of Hindutva. He considers Chandranath Basu to be the mountain of Hindutva. He says that Hindutva did not gain much prominence until Vinayak Damodar Savarkar proved it in his essay ‘Essentials of Hindutva’ in 1921-22. Savarkar, however, conceptualized Hindutva more as a socio-political ideology, which was very different from Chandranath Basu‘s concept.
Does he spread hatred?
On perusing Nageswara Rao’s Twitter timeline, we found that he spreads hatred against Muslims and Christians. For this he also makes false and misleading claims. Several fact checks done by our team attest to this fact.
Claim 1:
On October 13, 2021, she posted a photo of a woman in a hijab, with a placard making derogatory remarks about the Muslim community, intended to spread enmity between the two sects.
Fact Check
A simple reverse image search led us to the original photo posted by University of Mary Washington students campaigning against racism and stereotyping. The image posted by Rao has been changed to the original image, in fact “I am a Muslim but I am not an Arab”.
Therefore, this image is fake.
Claim 2:
On September 13, 2021, he reposted a video of a temple being demolished in Karnataka. Claimed that only temples are being demolished in Karnataka but mosques and churches are all intact.
Fact Check:
However, this claim is misleading. According to media sources that we have noticed, in Karnataka an order was passed to demolish 6,395 buildings illegally existing in the state. Religious considerations were not made. However, this angered those who accused the government of destroying only the temples and nothing else. This has also proved to be false.
Claim 3:
On 2 October 2021, Rao posted an article about Mahatma Gandhi saying that the article will make you lose faith in Gandhi and stop people from considering Gandhi as the Father of the Nation.
Fact Check:
The article contains baseless criticism of Gandhism along with “quotes” made by Gandhi. Relying on whataboutism and Strowman arguments, the article attempts to convince readers that everything that was claimed for Gandhi is bogus.
The quotes listed in the article have been provided with most of the sources coming from indiafacts.com, a conservative website that relies on legends, rumors and myths rather than documented history.
Hence this claim is also misleading.
Apart from this, he has recently made some tweets. Which is against Muslim and Christian community.
Is he against the constitution and secularism?
On perusing Nageswara Rao’s Twitter timeline, we found that he is also opposed to the Constitution and secularism. He believes that secularism has constitutionally, legally and officially invalidated indigenous Hinduism.
In another tweet, he writes that #Pseudo-Hinduism has changed #ConstitutionDay to reaffirm the unshakable belief in the divine book of the Constitution and the belief in pseudo-secularism. It is similar to the Christian sermon and the Islamic tabligh that grinds people to reaffirm their faith in their respective theological books and beliefs.
Is he disillusioned with the RSS and the BJP?
Nageswara Rao has been considered close to RSS leaders. But for the last few days, he can be seen opposing the RSS and BJP leaders. In his tweets, he uses #PseudoHindutva, #PseudoSecularism, #FakeHindutva, #CrookedHindutva, #BhagwatmuktRSS, #RSSmuktBharat to oppose RSS and BJP leaders.
