Fact Check

During the investigation, DFRAC found the claim to be false. We found multiple media reports regarding the news. According to a Hindustan Times report published on January 19, 2025: “Farmers from India and Bangladesh clashed along the international border in West Bengal’s Malda district on Saturday, forcing border guards from both nations to fire stun grenades and tear gas to disperse crowds that swelled to nearly 1,000 people on each side, officials said.”

Furthermore, we also found a report from The Economic Times published on January 19, 2025, which states: “Tensions flared at the India-Bangladesh border in Malda’s Sukhdevpur on Saturday as farmers from both sides clashed over disputed crops and trees, reported TOI. Indian farmers accused their Bangladeshi counterparts of stealing standing crops from Indian territory near the BSF’s 119 border outpost, while Bangladeshi farmers claimed that Indian nationals had crossed into their land and chopped down mango trees.”

Conclusion

It is evident from DFRAC’s fact check that the news of 94 Indian soldiers being hospitalized after a border clash with Bangladeshi forces is false. In reality, farmers from India and Bangladesh clashed along the international border. Therefore, the claim made by social media users is misleading.
