A fast-moving fire broke out in the Hollywood Hills on Wednesday night, threatening one of Los Angeles’ most iconic spots as firefighters battled to get under control three other major blazes that killed five people, put 130,000 people under evacuation orders and ravaged communities from the Pacific Coast to inland Pasadena.
Amid this, a video of a large crowd walking has gone viral on social media. While sharing the video users wrote, “The Israeli army made lakhs of Gaza Muslims homeless using weapons sent by America. Today, the upper-class Americans were made homeless, now America should improve itself.”
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found the claim to be false. We discovered a media report from Radiotrek published on August 25, 2024, featuring a similar video. The report states, “Thousands of pilgrims are traveling to the Pochaiv Lavra in the Ternopil region from Kamianets-Podilskyi in the Khmelnytskyi region. They walk for nearly a week in heat and rain, despite a ban by local authorities in both regions and the lack of formal blessing from Metropolitan Feodor of Kamianets-Podilskyi and Horodotskyi.”
Additionally, we found the same video on the Facebook page of ‘Николай Гарчев (Nikolay Garchev)’ uploaded on August 26, 2024, with the caption “Protest against Kiev’s law banning the activities of one of the Orthodox churches in Ukraine.”
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video is from a protest in Ukraine against a law in Kiev that bans the activities of one of the Orthodox churches. The video dates back to August 2024 and is not from America. Therefore, the claim made by social media users is misleading.
