Fact-Check

The DFRAC team investigated the video and found it misleadingly shared on X.
We reverse-searched the keyframes from the viral video, leading us to the latest reports from Times Of India, Indian Express, and Tripura Info.

As per reports from TOI and Tripura Info, Two BSF personnel chased the smugglers and inadvertently crossed into Bangladeshi territory. Local Bangladeshi villagers grew agitated and attacked the BSF personnel, attempting to snatch their weapons.

Furthermore, a report by Indian Express stated that a group of BGB personnel from the Bangladesh side came near the border fence and helped the Indian forces by putting up a collective effort to thwart the smugglers. As more BSF jawans arrived on the spot, the smugglers ran away. The incident occurred near Tripura’s Pillar No. 47 in Maguruli Gram Panchayat, Kailashahar under Unakoti District.

Conclusion

The viral video claiming that brave Bangladeshi locals and the BGB attacked Indian BSF personnel is misleading. Investigations reveal that the incident occurred when BSF personnel inadvertently crossed into Bangladeshi territory while chasing smugglers who crossed the Indian border.
