An image of Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami and former Indian tennis player Sania Mirza has gone viral on social media. In this photo, Shami and Sania Mirza are seen hugging each other. In another versions, both are depicted in wedding attire. While sharing the image, users wrote, “Mohammed Shami and Sania Mirza, beautiful picture. Congratulations, Shami brother.”
While another user claimed that the two are hugging each other.
Fact Check
During the investigation, DFRAC found the claim to be fake. We did not find any media reports regarding the viral images. Upon closer inspection, we identified several anomalies in the viral photos, which are as follows:
- The wedding attire photo clearly shows asymmetry in Shami’s eyes.
- In another photo of them embracing, asymmetry is also noticeable in Shami’s eyes.
- In one of the photos, Shami and Sania’s hands are intertwined as they hug.
- In the embrace photo, asymmetry is visible in the fingers of Sania’s hand
Additionally, we analyzed the viral photos using the AI detection tool, Hivemoderation, and found that the likelihood of all the photos being AI-generated is 99%. This indicates that the images were likely created using AI.
Conclusion
It is evident from DFRAC’s fact check that the viral image of Mohammed Shami and Sania Mirza is AI-generated. Therefore, the claim made by social media users is fake.
