Digitally edited article's screenshot alleging India-China tensions goes viral. Here are the facts

A screenshot of an article from The Wire has been widely shared on the social media platform X(formerly Twitter). It reads: “China is all set to annex Arundachal Pradesh and Sikkim as a part of South Tibet after Modi govt was successfully coerced by Beijing,” featuring FORCE magazine editor Pravin Sawhney as its author.

Fact-check

In the probe, the DFRAC team found that the screenshot had been digitally edited.
We conducted a Google Keyword search in this regard and found that the article or any similar one was not available online or on the media outlet The Wire.
Even, Sawhney’s X handle did not carry any update or tweet regarding this article.

On the contrary, we came across a different article by Pravin Sawhney with the date Oct 23, whereas the date given in the above-shared screenshot is Oct 29.

We also found that a similar image of the map shown in the above screenshot had been available on another website.

Moreover, according to multiple recent reports, the disengagement process between Indian and Chinese troops in the Depaang and Demchok areas of eastern Ladakh is nearly over.

Conclusion

It is evident from DFRAC’s #factcheck that the above-shared screenshot has been digitally edited. In reality, there is no such article has been available on the internet featuring Pravin Sawhney as its author.
