An old video from the Russia-Ukraine conflict falsely linked with ongoing Israel-Lebanon conflict.

On social media, a video of missile launched has gone viral. While sharing the video users claim that “Miracle in Lebanon: The missile launched at Israel returns to its source and blows up the launch pad and 5 barbaric Islamist terrorists”.

Fact Check

During the investigation, DFRAC found that the claim was false. We found a similar video on the YouTube channel of ‘The Sun’ uploaded on 24 June, 2022 titled “Russian missile fails and ‘boomerangs back at Russian troops’.

Furthermore, We found multiple media reports regarding this video. A report by ‘thewarzone’ from 24 June, 2022 featuring the screenshot of video stated “Video has emerged from Ukraine showing what’s described as a Russian surface-to-air missile launched from an unidentified air defense system failing spectacularly, potentially damaging its own launcher in the process”.

Moreover, we also found a report from ‘Business Insider’ carrying similar videos published on 25 June, 2022 mentioning “Videos appear to show a failed Russian missile launch from Luhansk, Ukraine”.

Conclusion

It is evident from the DFRAC’s fact check that the viral video is from 2022 Russia-Ukraine conflict. It is not related to ongoing conflict between Israel & Lebanon. Therefore, the claim social media users is misleading.
