Are SPOs being forcibly recruited by Indian Police in Jammu and Kashmir?

A claim has recently surfaced on social media platform X(formerly Twitter) stating that Indian police are forcibly recruiting Special Police Officers from 22 villages in Jammu and Kashmir to crush dissent. This is a clear move to stifle the overwhelming call for freedom

Taking to X, an account named Silly Tweets shared this claim and posted a link of news article published by KMS (Kashmir Media Service)

Fact-Check

The DFRAC team investigated this claim and found that it had been misleadingly shared on X. In our investigation, we came across some recently published reports by Daily excelsior and Greater Kashmir

Source: Daily Excelsior

According to these reports, J& K police in Rajouri has notified advertisement for recruitment of Special Police Officers (SPOs) in respect of 22 villages of district that have been declared as militancy infected.

Source: Greater kashmir

As per notification issued by issued by District Police Office Rajouri in respect of directions from Police Headquarters, eligible candidates of these villages can take part in SPOs recruitment.

Furthermore, We ran a reverse-image search on the Image employed with the claim using google lens, and found that it had been available online since 2023.
Apparently, It does not depict Indian police forcibly recruiting SPOs in Jammu and Kashmir.

Conclusion

It is evident from DFRAC’s Fact-check that the Indian police are not forcibly recruiting SPOs in Jammu and Kashmir. In fact, the police is following a thorough and systematic process to recruit the Special Police Officers.
