Fact-Check: Video of injured Police Personnel falsely shared with misleading claim. Here’s the reality.

A video showing some injured police officials is making rounds on social media platform X(Twitter). The video has been shared by many users claiming that nearly 14 police personnel were injured after a mob pelted stones demanding the custody of 35-year-old Hafiz Beg who raped & killed a 6-year-old girl.

Sharing this video on X, an account with username lonewolf_oo7 wrote “Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district Jamner 35 year old Hafiz Beg raped killed a 6 year old girl. At least 14 police personnel were injured after a group of persons allegedly pelted them with stones demanding the custody of a man, who was arrested for sexually assaulting and killing”

Another user also shared this video on X and made a similar claim.

Fact-Check:

A keyword search regarding the claim made through the above viral video led out team team to some reports from NDTV, News 18 and the Telegraph India dated June 21.

According to telegraph’s India report the rape and murder of a six-year old child in a tribal
village in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon led to violence late on Thursday night thatleft over 10 policemen including an officer of inspector rank injured. The report further stated that the girl was raped and murdered on June 11. Theaccused, identified as 35-year old Subhas Bheel, arrested later. A mob of around 300 people surrounded the Jamner police station, demanding the accusedbe handed over to them. Stones were pelted at the cops and left many policepersonnel injured. In addition to that, reports from NDTV and News 18 also asserted similar facts regarding this case.

Conclusion:

It is clear from DFRAC’s fact check  that the viral video claiming 35 year old Hafiz Beg has been misleadingly shared on.In reality, the culprit was not a Muslim. Hence, there is no communal angle involved in this case.
