A claim has recently surfaced on X stating that Italy and Spain are going to ban Indian firms for supplying arms to Israel.

A Bangladeshi handle namely Faryal Sikder, known for spreading misinformation on X, has posted an image carrying a stamp of Sanctions on the Indian Tricolor and claimed: “Italy and Spain to ban Indian firms for supplying arms to Israel” (Translated from Bengali)

Fact-Check

The DFRAC team investigated the claim and found no such reports or news articles have been published supporting the above claim.

However, we found some reports by Hindustan Times and TRT World from May 2024 stating that Spain refused permission for a merchant vessel carrying nearly 27 tonnes of explosive materials from India to Israel to dock at a Spanish port, with foreign minister José Manuel Albares saying this was the first time such an action was taken by his country.

Conclusion

It is evident from DFRAC’s Fact-Check that the above-shared claim stating the ban on Indian firms by Italy and Spain is completely fake as no reports or news articles have been found in this regard.
