A video showing a man with a knife in a busy shopping centre has recently surfaced on social media site X(Twitter). Users have shared this video and claimed that Pro-Palestinian Terrorist attacks took place in Sydney, Australia.

Sharing this video on X(Twitter), an X account named The Jaipur Dialogues wrote: “Pro Palestinian Terrorist attacks in Sydney! Do we still save this cult?!.

Another user named Sunanda Roy also shared this video and claimed: “Sydney Terrorist Attack”. It’s 100% confirmed now. Terrorists was Pro – Palestine and Hezbollah.

Fact-Check

A reverse-image search of the Keyframes obtained after converting the viral video led us to some media reports dated April 13, 2024

Media reports from ABC News, Livemint and CNN

According to CNN’s media report, Six dead and several others were injured after a man went on a stabbing rampage in a shopping mall in Sydney, Australia, on Saturday afternoon local time, one of the country’s worst mass killings in recent years. The suspect was shot dead.

Furthermore, the report stated that a police inspector shot the attacker dead on the scene. Police believe the suspect was a 40-year-old man who acted alone but could not provide further identification details. Early indications suggest the attack was not terror-related.

In addition, reports from ABC News and Livemint also cited similar facts in the context of the above-shared video.

Conclusion

It is evident from DFRAC’s fact-check that the above-shared video claiming the Pro-Palestinian Terrorist attacks in Sydney, Australia is misleading as the early indications suggest the attack was not terror-related.

Hence, the claim made by the users including The Jaipur Dialogues is false.
