A picture of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in black clothes is going viral on social media. The users who are sharing the picture are claiming that on the day of the stone-laying ceremony of Ram Mandir, Rahul Gandhi celebrated Black Day. They are also claiming “Today, these same ‘traitors’ are waiting for an invitation.”

An X user named Yogi Devnath while sharing the picture wrote, “
We Hindus can never forget that all these traitors had celebrated Black Day by wearing black clothes on the day of laying the foundation stone of our Ram Lala temple. And today all these traitors are waiting for the invitation”.

Fact Check

To know the truth of the viral picture, the DFRAC team searched some keywords on Google. During this, we found media reports by ANI & DW according to which, the stone-laying ceremony of Ram Mandir happened on 5 August 2020.

ANI & dw

At the same time, the viral picture of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is of 5 August 2022, when the Congress party took a march to Rashtrapati Bhawan in protest against unemployment, inflation, and rising prices. During this period, many congress leaders were also detained for few hours.

Conclusion

Therefore, it is clear from the DFRAC fact check that viral picture of Rahul Gandhi is from the protest against unemployment that took place on 5 Aug 2022. Thus, claim made by social media users is misleading as the foundation stone of Ram Mandir was laid on 5 Aug 2020.
